Buccal fat pads are fat deposits located between the nostril and the corner of the mouth. Buccal fat pads are the leading cause of what we know commonly as chubby cheeks. When buccal fat pads are reduced, the patient’s face takes on a slimmer, more defined shape.
Buccal Fat Pad Reduction
At Radiance Aesthetic Surgery, Dr. C. Carson Huynh is proud to offer buccal fat pad reduction.
This procedure is often performed with local anesthesia only or with light intravenous sedation for maximal relaxation.
Dr. Huynh will make a small incision on the inside of the cheek. He will then identify the buccal extension of the fat pad and determine how much of the fat pad can be removed safely. A radiofrequency tip will be used to remove the desired fat from the pad, and the incisions are closed using dissolving stitches.
The procedure is relatively brief, traditionally taking just under an hour. The recovery process typically takes 3-5 days, and final results are visible after several weeks when all swelling has dissipated.
