Revision Rhinoplasty Atlanta, GA
Rhinoplasty is an important decision for anyone who has either concerns about the function or appearance of their nose. However, some patients did not attain the results they had originally hoped, or were promised, from their initial rhinoplasty procedure.
In some cases, individuals experience complications or insufficient solutions to their initial problems. Revision rhinoplasty, also referred to as secondary rhinoplasty, is a procedure in which dual board-certified and experienced rhinoplasty surgeon Dr. C. Carson Huynh addresses issues you may be experiencing from a previous rhinoplasty performed by another surgeon.
Dr. Huynh is one of a handful of surgeons in the country with a dual-doctorate degrees in the practices of maxillofacial and facial aesthetics. His expertise, education, and unique understanding of this procedure can help repair problems that may have arisen after rhinoplasty. He can also help you achieve the results you set out to attain from your first procedure.

Common Reasons to Pursue a Revision Rhinoplasty
There are many reasons someone might want to pursue a revision rhinoplasty that go beyond just cosmetic—although that is a valid reason. Some patients are dissatisfied with the results obtained by another plastic surgeon. Others may find that they’re experiencing functional issues, like trouble breathing, that weren’t fully addressed during the first procedure. In rare circumstances, complications could arise, and revision rhinoplasty may be necessary to address the effects of this event to achieve the ideal outcome that was originally intended. Dr. Huynh is extensively trained in the delicate and complex techniques involved in a revision rhinoplasty. With his experience, artistry, and skill, he can help you reach the look and functionality you’re seeking from rhinoplasty.
How Is a Revision Rhinoplasty Performed?
A revision rhinoplasty varies from patient-to-patient depending on their needs. Typically, it involves taking bone and cartilage grafts from the ear or a rib and reshaping them for the nose. The procedure is complex and requires the advanced skills of an experienced facial plastic surgeon. Dr. Huynh is not only a board-certified facial plastic surgeon, but he also specializes in performing complex facial contouring surgery. The incision will likely be made in the same area as the original rhinoplasty procedure to avoid excess scarring; however, rhinoplasty involves discreet incisions in any case, and typical scarring is virtually unnoticeable.
What to Expect from a Revision Rhinoplasty Consultation
When you meet with Dr. Huynh for your consultation, he will listen closely to the concerns you have with your original rhinoplasty results. Dr. Huynh centers all his consultation around this extensive doctor-patient communication and believes it to be essential in achieving the aesthetic or functional improvements his patients seek. He will perform an in-depth evaluation of your nose to determine the amount of support remaining and whether cartilage grafts will be necessary to make the desired changes.
Another part of your consultation will involve a review of your medical history and previous rhinoplasty procedure. Using digital photo computer imaging software, Dr. Huynh will establish the desired look for your nose. Together, you will both develop the optimal treatment plan to obtain the results you initially envisioned.

How Long Do I Need to Wait Before Undergoing a Revision Rhinoplasty?
Dr. Huynh understands the desire to undergo a revision rhinoplasty as soon as possible after failing to achieve your desired results. Unfortunately, due to the extensive swelling that is typical after nose surgery, it is encouraged that patients wait until inflammation from their original rhinoplasty resolves before planning a revision procedure. This waiting period provides time for final outcomes to fully reveal themselves before patients make a final decision about a revision procedure.
It takes about six months to a full year for all the swelling in the nasal tissue to completely subside. This time frame varies depending on the thickness of the skin and which part of the nasal framework needs revision from the original rhinoplasty. As the rate of healing varies from patient to patient, a wait period of six months to one year before pursuing a secondary procedure is generally a good rule of thumb.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Revision Rhinoplasty?
There are several reasons why someone might want to pursue a secondary, or revision, rhinoplasty. They can include displeasure with the results of the first procedure or functional problems that have been exacerbated or left untreated from their previous surgery. You may be a good candidate for revision rhinoplasty if:
- You are unhappy with the results from your original rhinoplasty
- You are experiencing complications from your original rhinoplasty
- You had or are having trouble breathing that has still not been corrected
Dr. Huynh will discuss your goals with you during your personalized revision rhinoplasty consultation. He will explain the process of the procedure and discuss your expectations. Together, you and Dr. Huynh will curate a treatment plan that is tailored to address your concerns and individual needs.
What to Expect from a Revision Rhinoplasty Recovery
Recovering from a revision rhinoplasty is very similar to the recovery from a primary rhinoplasty. You will likely experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort for several days after the procedure; however, pain can be monitored and controlled with medication if you choose. You will need to diligently shield your nose from harm for the first two months after your procedure and avoid blowing your nose for two weeks after your revision. Most patients can return to their normal daily routines after about one week.
How Much Does a Revision Rhinoplasty Cost?
Revision rhinoplasty is a more complex procedure than primary rhinoplasty. However, at Radiance Aesthetic Surgery, we believe that rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty should be an affordable option for residents in and around Atlanta. Dr. Huynh and his staff will go over the details of your plan, including the cost, during your consultation so you will be well-informed about your options.
