Asian Rhinoplasty

Asian Rhinoplasty in Atlanta, GA

Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is a cosmetic procedure for reshaping the nose and making it more symmetrical or more cohesive with the rest of your facial features, but it needs to be customized to produce the best results for each individual patient.

Due to ethnic differences, rhinoplasty cannot be done the same manner for Asian patients as it is for Caucasian patients or African American patients. The Asian nose shows incredible diversity. Some may exhibit wider bridges with flatter noses, while others from another region of Asia possess a completely different structure. While these features are celebrated and sacred, sometimes the size and shape of the nose doesn’t always look cohesive with the other features of the face, or the patient’s preferences. Asian rhinoplasty can be tailored to consider unique features, heritage, and individuality to help create harmony in your overall appearance.

Dr. C. Carson Huynh is an experienced, knowledgeable, and nationally recognized expert in facial plastic surgery. As an immigrant, he understands the importance of recognizing and respecting one’s cultural norms while still being able to achieve a sense of individuality. With over 20 years of experience, he has developed techniques for rhinoplasty that allow him to customize nose surgeries to help fit the unique wants and needs of his patients.

Asian Rhinoplasty in Atlanta, GA

An Asian rhinoplasty is a specific type of ethnic rhinoplasty designed for patients with the classic Asian features who want to enhance their noses while maintaining their overall ethnic characteristics. Similar to traditional rhinoplasty, Asian rhinoplasty can make both cosmetic and functional improvements to the patient’s nose. However, Asian rhinoplasty is performed using a specific set of techniques designed for the unique structures of an Asian nose.

What Are the Benefits of Asian Rhinoplasty?

You might consider an Asian rhinoplasty if you are unhappy or self-conscious about the appearance of your nose or if you have suffered an injury that has left your nose deformed or with decreased functionality. Asian rhinoplasty benefits include:

Many of the changes that a typical rhinoplasty would include are not ethnically compatible with the Asian face. Dr. Huynh uses his experience and expertise as an Asian rhinoplasty surgeon to improve the appearance and definition of the nose in such a way that creates balance while still appearing natural with the rest of the Asian facial characteristics.

Asian rhinoplasty can improve the appearance of the nose, making it more attractive and cohesive with the rest of the facial features. Some of the ways that Asian rhinoplasty can accomplish this include:

  • A more balanced width
  • Built-up nasal bridge
  • Improved nostril shape and orientation
  • Defined nasal tip
  • Adjusted nostril width

A common complaint among Asian patients pursuing an Asian rhinoplasty is their nose is too wide or lacks sufficient projection. Asian rhinoplasty with Dr. Huynh can restructure the nose and reinforce the bridge, tip, and nasal definition, allowing the nose to blend well with the face for more harmonious balance.

Choose Dr. Huynh as Your Atlanta Asian Rhinoplasty Surgeon

When it comes to performing a rhinoplasty, no matter the person’s ethnicity, a plastic surgeon needs to have a deep understanding of the structures and unique needs of different ethnicities to create natural results and harmony among a patient’s other features. Ethnicity can affect not only the appearance of the nose but also its underlying structure, including those who have mixed raced features, which is why it’s essential to find a surgeon with the education, specialty, and deep understanding of different facial anatomies.

As one of the few surgeons in the world with dual training in both maxillofacial and facial plastic surgery, Dr. Huynh offers his patients unique skills and approaches to treating facial bone and soft tissue structure in facial aesthetic surgery.

As a man of Asian descent himself, he understands the importance of preserving one’s cultural identity. His experience with African American rhinoplasty, Hispanic rhinoplasty, Caucasian rhinoplasty, and Middle eastern rhinoplasty is what ultimately sets him apart from other facial plastic surgeons and allows him to fully understand his patients and help them achieve the features they’ve always wanted.

What You Should Expect from Your Asian Rhinoplasty Surgery

Before your surgery, Dr. Huynh can use digital photos and computer imaging to create a representation of the desired look of your nose. Rhinoplasty is typically performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia if breathing regulations are required. In most cases involving a reduction of size or alterations of the shape of the nose, the skin of the nose will be dissected and retracted away from the underlying bone and cartilage so that these supportive tissues can be reshaped. Once finished, the skin is replaced over the surface to heal.

What Do You Want from Your Asian Rhinoplasty Surgery?

  • Strong Nasal Bridge: Many Asian noses have a flat nasal bridge. Dr. Huynh can build up the nasal bridge so that it’s more defined. This subtle change can make the face appear less round and more slimmed down.  Dr. Huynh recommends using your own cartilage tissue from behind the ear or rib cartilage for this purpose.  Silastic dorsal implant is another available option.
  • More Prominent Nose: To balance the width of the Asian face, Asian rhinoplasty can increase projection of the nose. Dr. Huynh will reconstruct the nose to lengthen it so that it appears more balanced and proportionate to the eyes, cheeks, and mouth.
  • Defined Nasal Tip: If the cartilage in the nasal tip is weak, it can be reinforced with tissue from the nasal septum to help emphasize the nasal tip.
  • Narrowed Nostrils: In reinforcing the nasal tip with Asian rhinoplasty, there may also be a slight narrowing effect of the nostrils. If more narrowing is desired, Dr. Huynh can surgically reshape the nostrils to make them more aesthetically pleasing.
  • Correct Deformity or Injury: Nasal deformities or injuries can be treated by Asian rhinoplasty. Dr. Huynh can perform the appropriate surgical techniques to restore a balance and natural nose that is free of signs of injury or deformity.

Asian Rhinoplasty FAQS

Asian rhinoplasty is different from conventional rhinoplasty which requires a more highly specialized skill set.  Asian noses often have a flat nose bridge and an underprojected tip.  Asian rhinoplasty is an augmentation procedure.  Conventional rhinoplasty is often a reductive procedure.

When performed well, Asian rhinoplasty can last forever.  Dr. Huynh recommends using patient’s own tissue grafts from ear or rib cartilage for best long term results.

Asian rhinoplasty is an augmentation procedure to raise the nose bridge and increase tip projection and support.

During an Asian rhinoplasty, cartilage tissue graft is harvested from behind the ear or from a section of rib to use as grafts for augmentation.  Silastic dorsal implant is an alternative option to augment the nose bridge only.  Dr. Huynh recommends using the patient’s own cartilage tissue as grafts to increase tip projection and support.
