Nonsurgical Jaw Reduction

What Is Non-Surgical Jaw Reduction in Atlanta, GA

Non-surgical jaw reduction (botulinum toxin) offers a less-invasive cosmetic option for women who consider their wide or sharply angled jawline as too harsh or manly.

before and after non-surgical jaw reduction

This procedure utilizes a neuromodulator (Botox®, Dysport, Jeuveau) injections to weaken and shrink the muscles to create a softer, more tapered look. Nonsurgical jaw reduction is suitable for individuals with square jaws caused by enlarged muscles, also called masseter hypertrophy. However, if your wide jawline is the result of a too-prominent bony mandible, then Botox injections would not be effective.

Aside from the cosmetic enhancement benefits of Botox, Dr. Huynh also treats patients who suffer from inflammation and spasm of the chewing muscles. This condition is commonly referred to as temporomandibular joint disorder or TMJ. These patients often have bruxism or teeth grinding and headaches. Botox can be an effective treatment for this condition. A thorough review of your pain history and clinical exam can help determine if Botox treatment is right for you.

Non-Surgical Jaw Reduction (botulinum toxin) Recovery and Benefits

Attaining a slimmer jawline is now possible without surgery, and the benefits are undeniable. When Botox® is injected into the two large muscles known as masseters on either side of the jaw, the muscles are relaxed and therefore become smaller, creating a more acutely angled jaw appearance. This noninvasive method is an outpatient procedure and is more cost-effective than traditional surgical techniques. In most cases, the injections are completed within five minutes, and the effects become noticeable two to eight weeks after the procedure. The greatest benefit of this nonsurgical method is nonexistent downtime. Patients are released and may immediately resume regular activities. Nonsurgical jaw reduction is a safe, convenient, and affordable alternative for those seeking a slimmer, more feminine look.

Non-Surgical Jaw Reduction FAQs

This technique is to reduce the width and flare of a wide jawline. This reduction of the wide jawline appearance can improve facial harmony and elevate a more feminine facial appearance. In particular, some ethnicities, like Koreans, tend to have a stouter masseter muscles (chewing muscles) and a wider outer face. In addition, non-surgical jaw reduction employs injectable neuromodulators to enhance facial beauty.

Women with thick masseter muscles are excellent candidates for the procedure. You can determine this thickness by biting hard and feeling the jawline. You are probably a good candidate if the muscle appears rock-hard and enlarged. Dr. Huynh and his team have performed this procedure on women and men of different ethnicities.

Another essential aspect of investigating candidacy relates to habits that may predispose you to have a  flared jawline. For example, excessive gum chewing helps accentuate the masseter size over time. Also, chewing hard items like cuttlefish or other dried items can expand muscle masseter.

Botox weakens the treated muscle, leading to a size reduction over time. Dr. Huynh focuses on where the three heads of the muscle overlap for maximal effect, which corresponds with where the muscle connects to the bone. By relaxing the muscles here, the bone will eventually become smaller, giving you longer-lasting results without compromising bone density.

If you experience your jaw tiring while chewing, this is a temporary issue and fades over time.

Unlike typical upper face Botox injections with results realized seven to ten days post-treatment and lasts about three to four months before needing additional injections, non-surgical jaw reduction takes about six weeks before you see a difference and typically lasts between six to eighteen months.
