The procedure is done by placing several barbed threads under the skin through very tiny access points. The threads are then activated to engaged the undersurface of the skin and lift the key areas of the face, mainly the cheeks, jawline, and neck. The ends of the threads are then trimmed and buried under the skin. The PDO threads provide an immediate lifting effect to restore youthful contours and results can last up to two years. The threads eventually self dissolved in a natural process and are replaced by new collagen formation in the skin. The procedure can typically be done in under an hour in the office with local anesthesia alone or with light intravenous sedation.

Is PDO Thread Lift Right For Me?

Although everyone can benefit from this treatment, the best candidates are those typically in their 30’s to 40’s with early to moderate skin laxity.  Thread lifting can be combined with dermal fillers to yield the best results.

This combination of treatments is the key to avoid the much dreaded “overfilled syndrome” where an inexperienced injector injects too much filler in the face in effort to lift, meanwhile creating an unnatural and bloated appearance.  Dr. Carson Huynh treats patients with overfilled faces by first dissolving the excess fillers then retreat with PDO thread lift or surgical facelift, depending on individual need of the patient.

PDO Thread Lift vs. Surgical Facelift

  • Less downtime.  Most patients have no discomfort with little to none social downtime after thread lift
  • Lower cost.  Treatment cost can varies depending on the amount of threads used and treatment time for each patient’s specific needs.
  • No concern for scarring.
  • No need for general anesthesia
  • Additional touch up treatments may be needed for maintenance as the threads go away and facial aging continues.
