What is Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Lift in Atlanta?
Eyelid surgery addresses the wrinkles, deep lines, sagging, and puffiness that occur around your eyes. Sun exposure, heredity, or the passage of time can be the cause of these issues, giving you a perpetually fatigued or aged look. By undergoing eyelid surgery, you can restore a more youthful and vibrant appearance to your eyes.
Also referred to as an eyelid lift or Blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper or lower lids or both.
Common Reasons for Blepharoplasty
- Excessive skin above the eyes
- Excessive skin above the eyes causing vision impairment
- Bags below the eyes that remain throughout the day
- Wrinkling around the eyes
With facial aging, the forehead and brows can sag down and cause excessive hooding of the upper eyelids. This condition is also known as brow ptosis. The recommended treatment, in this case, is a forehead and brow lift. This procedure can be combined with upper Blepharoplasty to give the most natural-looking rejuvenated look to the area around the eyes.
Most patients undergoing a blepharoplasty are given local anesthesia with sedation for maximal relaxation and comfort. The exact procedure depends on the particular problem Dr. Huynh is trying to fix. Most of the techniques involve placing strategic incisions through which Dr. Huynh will correct various eyelid problems through repositioning fat deposits, removing excess skin, and tightening muscles. Dr. Huynh is experienced with a special technique of eyelid rejuvenation known as Anchoring Blepharoplasty, originally developed by renowned eyelid plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Flowers. This technique overcomes the limitation of conventional Blepharoplasty, which often results in a less distinct eyelid fold or excessive wrinkly eyelid skin. Anchoring Blepharoplasty technique allows the surgeon to re-create a new precise fold, which gives much more natural and youthful eyelids. To the best of our knowledge, no other surgeon in the Atlanta area performs this technique of eyelid surgery.
Benefits of Anchoring Blepharoplasty
- Appearance – With excess skin around the eyes removed, the eyes appear visibly firmer, and patients have a more youthful appearance.
- Self-Confidence – Patients can experience a renewed self-confidence in their appearance, especially if the patients’ self-image about his or her eye appearance was low prior to surgery.
- Eyesight – This surgery can provide vision improvement for people who suffer from impaired peripheral vision due to the overhanging excess eyelid skin.
- Anchoring Blepharoplasty technique results are more defined, natural looking, and longer-lasting youthful upper eyelids than conventional eyelid skin removal techniques.

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a commonly performed facial plastic surgery procedure to treat lower eyelid bags and fat pseudo-herniation. Generally, there are two approaches to treating the lower eyelids: Transconjunctival and Transcutaneous Blepharoplasty. The Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty is performed by placing the incision on the inner surface of the eyelid; hence, no visible scar is seen. This technique is most suitable for patients who have excessive fat in the lower eyelid and have good skin tone (typically younger patients). The Transcutaneous Blepharoplasty approach is usually indicated in older patients or those with poor skin tone and excessive skin laxity. In this case, the incision is placed through the outer surface of the eyelid just below the eyelash line. This incision provides access to remove the excess fat while also allows for conservative removal of redundant eyelid skin and muscle. Dr. Huynh will carefully examine your eyelid and determine which approach is best for your case.
A chemical peel of the eyelids is often performed together with a lower blepharoplasty to give the best result for eyelid rejuvenation. This treatment is easily performed at the same time and does not prolong the recovery period of eyelid surgery.
