Buccal Fat Removal
Buccal fat removal is a minor in office procedure to reduce the fat deposits located just below the cheek bones and lateral to the nostril and the corner of the mouth. Buccal fat pads are the leading cause of what we know commonly as chubby cheeks. When buccal fat pads are reduced, the patient’s face takes on a slimmer, more defined shape.
At Radiance Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. C. Carson Huynh is proud to offer buccal fat pad removal to help you obtain and slimmer facial profile and aesthetic contours.
The buccal fat removal procedure is often performed with local anesthesia only or with light intravenous sedation for a more relaxed experience.
During a buccal fat removal procedure, Dr. Huynh will make a small incision on the inside of the cheek. He will then identify the buccal extension of the fat pad and determine how much of the fat pad can be removed safely. A radiofrequency tip will be used to remove the desired amount of fat from the fat pad, and the incisions are closed using dissolving stitches.
The buccal fat removal procedure is relatively brief and painless, traditionally taking just under an hour. The recovery process typically takes 3-5 days, and final results are visible after several weeks when all swelling has dissipated.
